Chargeback evidence for service businesses with nothing to ship

There is no tracking number on a haircut. The records that win chargebacks on services come from the work itself, and most merchants do not capture them.

Updated 13 May 2026.

A services business has no tracking number to point to. The shipping label that wins a 13.1 case for a goods seller does not exist for a contractor finishing an installation or a consultant billing a delivered hour. The customer's bank still expects evidence. Visa's compelling-evidence rules for services ask for service logs, signed completion records and timestamped customer communications.

The records that win are signed work orders that confirm scope and price. Dated photographs of the finished work help too. So do calendar invites accepted from the customer's email address, and messages sent before the service date in which the customer expects the work. Most services merchants keep none of these, because their order software was built for shipping goods.

Choose one place to store them, such as a shared drive, a CRM field or a project board. Train the team to file them against the customer record at the time of the job. Decide which ones are required before you invoice.
